SILCA began in 1917, when Felice Sacchi started making bicycle pumps near Milan. The company stayed in the Sacchi family for most of the next century, and its frame pumps and pressure gauges became fixtures of European racing. In 2013 Claudio Sacchi, Felice's grandson, sold SILCA to Josh Poertner, and in 2014 the company moved its headquarters and manufacturing to Indianapolis, where it is based today.

The modern SILCA is best known for chain wax. Secret Chain Blend is a hot-melt immersion wax: the chain is stripped clean, dipped in melted wax and left to set, and it comes off the bike clean to the touch. Super Secret is the drip version, applied with the chain on the bike, either on its own or to top up a hot-waxed chain between full waxings. The range goes well beyond the drivetrain. Protocol tires come in two families, RCR for the road in 29, 34 and 38mm and RCG for gravel from 45 to 55mm, all tubeless ready with folding beads.
